Minimum Age
You must be at least 10 years old to take most of the Marine Ecology Specialties. For our marine conservation courses or marine science gap year programs, you must be at least 16 years old to join.
Minimum Certification Level
For SSI Marine Ecology courses a certification is not necessary unless you want to take the diving aspect of the course. A minimum certification of Advanced Open Water with Perfect Buoyancy is required for our more extensives courses and internships. Equivalent certifications from other recognised training agencies are also accepted. This ensures all participants can maintain proper control and minimize impact during underwater conservation work.
Medical Statement
You’ll need to be medically fit for scuba diving. Please download and review this Scuba Diving Medical Statement. If you have any questions or medical conditions, we recommend consulting with your physician before booking.
Recent Dive Experience
For your safety and comfort, we ask that all participants have completed a dive within the last 6 months. If it’s been longer, we’ll schedule a Scuba Review session before your program begins to ensure you’re confident in the water and ready to dive into marine conservation activities.
